Corrugated Metal Roofing Can Give Protection

Corrugated metal roofing is rippled metal sheets used for roofing applications. It is commonly used in commercial, agricultural and industrial purposes though nowadays it is recognized as an excellent form of residential roofing. Corrugated metal roofing has been in use since the 1840s. Through technological developments, it is rust free and has other attributes that has enhanced its qualities.

The galvanizing of corrugated roofing protects it against corrosion in air and water. This has resulted in this roofing system to become one of the most durable roofing materials in the market. It has an expectant life span of over fifty years, is weather proof, non combustible, fire resistant and is the safest roofing option for lightning prone areas. It is completely recyclable and is environment friendly. As it is a good reflector of heat, it reduces energy charges. Being lightweight it puts less stress on the underlining walls and materials and does not require much frame work and allied support. This makes installing corrugated metal roofing simple and inexpensive.

Corrugated metal roofing insulation conserves energy as the insulation materials inhibit the flow of energy which influences heat loss or gain of the structure. The five main insulation materials are poly methane foam, blankets, rigid fibers or plastic foam boards and fiber pellets. Roof insulation should always be installed according to industry standards, safety requirements and optimal functional conditions. Professional services provide installation, repair, replacement, cleaning and maintenance. For this there are corrugated metal roofing contractors to ensure that roofing installation and restoration brings long lasting comfort of the highest quality within budget.

For metal roofing restoration, an acrylic binder is incorporated as a roof refurbishment application. Other roof restoration materials include specially formulated primers, sealers and top coats. At times, most technologically advanced roof coatings including Tileflex 2000, enhanced with Teflon, increases the longevity of the valued roof. The corrugated roofing repairs include locating sources of leakage and preventing further spread of water. The acrylic roof coating provides complete water proof protection to the roof.

Metal roofing and metal siding systems are the choice of building owners and architects since they offer a wide array of corrugated metal roofing design options. Metal roofing that is easy to work with and economical are available, both in standard and custom specification modules. For industrial roofing, the Type B Wide Rib is the preferred choice. The Wide Rib allows for a narrow top opening which is desirable when rigid insulation is to be used on top. The roofing contractors provide corrugated metal roofing instructions and corrugated metal roofing guide to the home owners. This ensures that optimization of performance of the roofing system can be adhered to depending on the location of the residence.

Advanced corrugated metal roofing shingles are specially designed to prevent hail damage and high wind uplift. Such design flexibility is inherent in this novel roofing shingle concept allowing the material properties to be used to its fullest capacity.

Lawn Vacuums

Lawn Vacuums are specialized yard maintenance equipment. They are designed specifically to remove
leaves and litter from yards and lawns. Many riding lawn mowers can be converted to work as lawn vacuums. If your property has a lot of deciduous trees on it then you really need lawn vacuums come fall when all the leaves come tumbling down. Most units of government no longer allow you to burn your leaves due to air pollution concerns so you must rake and bag them up to be hauled away. This can mean the loss of two or more weekends each fall just to gather leaves. lawn vacuums on the other hand, can in a matter of an hour or two complete the task including bagging process. Many landowners also save money by creating their own mulch using leaves and grass clippings. Lawn vacuums in conjunction with a lawn mower will facilitate this effort by chopping the mulch material as it is picked up thereby accelerating the mulch processes.

Lawn vacuums basically come in different forms. The most common lawn vacuums are built as a trailer that is pulled behind a lawn tractor. A powerful blower is located at the front of the trailer that blows air and vacuumed material into the enclosed trailer. A suction tube is connected to the lawn mowers discharge chute. As the lawn tractor cuts the lawn or leaves up they are blown back to the vacuums blower then into the lawn vacuums trailer.

Lawn vacuums models also include walk behind models that have a suction chute located at the front of it. As you pass over yard debris it is sucked up and deposited into a bin or set of barrels. These yard vacuums are primarily designed for leaf removal. Lawn vacuums really shine when it comes to cleaning up last summer flower garden that is choked with dead material and leaves.

Most lawn vacuums are designed to automatically deposit yard debris into paper or plastic bags for easy curbside pickup. Many newly designed walk behind lawn vacuums neatly fold up for storage after use. Considering that you can do four days of work in a matter of hours, lawn vacuums are a good investment for a homeowner that wants to do more than rake leaves on the weekend.

RV Roof Repair

Do you need to repair your recreational vehicle? If so, take a look at this short article tofind outwhat you will need if you want to do it yourself. You will find great tips on rv repair and how to avoid a few pitfalls.

One of the issues with working on your motor home is to avoid is trying todo a repair over a dirty roof. If you have a large area of your RV roof to repair, you will more than likely need a power washer. After using the washer, get a street broom and clean the area until the roof is white or the original color once more. The cleaner on the street broom during this step can be a floor cleaner. If you need it, EPDM cleaners are available. These type of cleaners are extremely flammable and will need to to be used with cotton cloth. Another good tip for the cleaning process is to make sure you clean the oil and grease first before you clean the other things from your RV roof.

Next on the list is to decide the tools you will need. The list is fairly simple and not that expensive. The most important tool is the roller. It will go a long way to choose a roller that will do a good job of rolling on and making the adhesive flow. Another tool is sandpaper for the roof surface or a drill motor with a wire disc on it for larger areas. Two other things for the job are a razor knife ( commonly called a utility knife ) or scissors, and a scraper.

If you did your last few steps correctly the process is simply a matter of applying the new material with the adhesive and rolling it out smooth with the roller. Some coatings and adhesives are going to need to be primed before you put you apply the roof repair products. If the weather is a bit chilly, say below forty degrees Fahrenheit, you may also need a prime coat before the final coat. Another tip that is recommended is that you apply a patch that is two inches larger than the original area needing repair. Cover the screws and flange areas with sealant last.

Saving money involves reading an article like this one. There will be times when you may need a professional if the job gets too large to handle. Now that you know the basic tips on RV roof repair you can go and do it yourself and have a less leaky roof and some piece of mind.

Solar Shingles - A Solar-Powered Roof

With the rapid advancement of solar power we are now seeing new products enter the market containing "integrated solar panels".

For example, solar shingles. Essentially, these are ordinary roof shingles which are made out of photovoltaic materials. They perform the same function as ordinary roof shingles, with the added capability of producing electricity.

The advantage of these thin "solar panels" is that they can now be integrated right into one's building materials - so instead of having solar panels on your roof, you would now have a solar roof.

Aside from being more desirable from an aesthetic standpoint, this also eliminates the need for bulky and heavy "traditional solar panels" to be installed.

How are Solar Shingles Made?

Advancements in solar power technology, such as the inventions of solar ink and other combinations of semi-conductors, have made it possible to combine or include photovoltaic materials in with a wide range of other products and materials. Solar cells no longer need to be made out of bulky heavy-weight silicon panels. They can in fact be printed on just about any type of material - such as metal, plastic, and others. Researchers have even found ways to produce organic photovoltaics, though that is at the moment still in a purely experimental phase.

Benefits of Solar Shingles

- Attractive style

- Fully integrated shingle roof

- Lower electric bill

- Free electricity

- Pollution-free power

- Increased home value

- Protects the environment

- Exceptionally durable

- Great investment

- Significant state cash rebates available

- Federal tax incentives available

Costs and Financing

To be honest, right at this moment solar shingles might still seem expensive to some, but as any new technology develops its products become cheaper with time. However it does appear that the cost will be considerably lower than installing a comparable set of conventional solar panels. In one recent example, the entire cost of a home solar shingle installation was approximately $16,000, with a $12,000 tax rebate. This brought the entire cost to only $4000. That's considerably lower than the usual cost involved in installing a home solar power system - but one has to keep in mind as well that the cost of tiling or shingling a roof is covered at the same time. These are, after all, shingles as well as solar panels.

Clean energy cash incentives and tax rebates are available at a federal level, and most states also have a clean energy or sustainable energy source rebate program. This, combined with energy savings, does make them affordable, and will in most cases pay for itself over time.

Soundproofing Foam - Is it the Answer to Your Noise Problems?

It's soundproof foam, and while you may see the sense of using soundproof foam to eliminate your house's noise issues, you may be delighted to know that it will also provide you with extra insulations against the drafts which creep into your rooms along with the unwanted noise. So using soundproof foam in your house is a great way to eliminate two annoying problems in one relatively easy step!

How To Install Soundproof Foam

Perhaps the biggest selling point of soundproof foam is that its installation will not mean that you need to tear down and replace your existing walls. Soundproof foam will be added to your home through its attic, from where it will make its way down the interior surfaces of the walls, coating them with a new, sound-deadening layer of insulation and giving you the snug and quiet home for which you've been yearning.

By the time the soundproof foam has completely descended along you walls, it will have completely filled any small holes and gaps, including those surrounding your electrical outlets and lighting fixtures. If you're like most homeowners, you might have never considered how the tiny openings around these outlets and fixtures can reduce you home's overall energy efficiency, and one of the biggest rewards of using soundproofing foam will come when you see your next energy bill! Another overlooked benefit of installing soundproof foam is that it will absorb any unpleasant odors so that they do not spread throughout your house.

Other Things You'll Love About Soundproof Foam

In addition to lowering your energy bills, using soundproof foam to stop your noise problems will save you significantly over any other soundproofing methods. For one thing, you'll have full access to every room of your house while the soundproofing foam installation is taking place, and the labor costs of installing it will be a fraction of those of any other method of soundproofing construction. Your soundproofing foam installation will also be backed by a generous warranty.

But the most impressive aspect of using soundproofing foam is, without a doubt, its outstanding noise-deadening properties. Should your home be near a street which has continuing heavy traffic, you have probably longed for a way to shut out the noise, especially when you are trying to get a good night's rest. But your soundproof foam will also eliminate the problem of noise bleeding between your home's interior walls, so that your kids can stay up late watching TV or playing video games without disturbing your sleep or distracting you from your office work.

Soundproof foam will also block sound from penetrating the interior walls of your home. The kids can play their music or video games in one room while you watch TV in another and someone else works in the home office, and all of you will be spared the distraction of each other's noise!

Popping Or Clunking Noise in Front End - Repair Tip Secrets!

Finding clunking and popping noises are without a doubtone of the most time consumingjobs an auto technician has to face. Sure some noises just require a simple suspension and steering inspection to find worn bushings, tie rods or ball joints but many other times it's not that simple. While driving, it's important tonotice whenthe clank or rattle noise occurs, this will be a clue. If the noise only is heardover bumps, it will most likely be something in thesuspension. If the noise is only heard on turns, the problem will most likelybe in the steering system.

Creak On Sharp Turns in Parking Lot

The most difficult noise that I had to find wasseveral years ago, itwas a creaking noise from the back of the car on sharp turnsat parking lot speeds. This car had been to several other shops before Ilooked at it. Needless to say manyparts had been installedwithout any success of silencing the noise.I first started by checking the torque on ALL of the bolts on the suspension. I knew it wouldn't be that easy, but you have to start with the basics. By using an electroniclisteningdevice I was able to narrow down mysearch for the creak. Itappeared as though itwas going to be somethingwith the uni-body. Uni-body noises are more likely to be in cars that were previously wrecked. Sincethis car was never in an accident, I kept looking. I removed the rear seat and went onanother test drive. The noise was louder!Behindwhere the back seat cushion goes, there was two cross support braces bolted in.This was the problem, one of thebolts was slightly loose, allowing theuni-body to flex just enough on sharp parking lot turns to make the noise.

Repair Tip Secrets - Look For The Following

  1. Worn bushings, ball jointsor tie rod ends.
  2. Rust around bolt heads or washers (accelerated rustmay indicate movement).
  3. Check and lubricate steering stops at control arms to steering knuckles.
  4. Loose itemsin the car or trunk.
  5. Loose lug nuts.
  6. Loose batteryhold down.
  7. Missing exhausthangers.
  8. Worn motor mounts.

Lifetime Lube

Most older vehicles had grease fittings that were lubricated or greased as part of an oil change; that's why we called it aLube Oil & Filter. Most steering and suspension parts today are lifetime lubricated. Meaning they are not greased for the duration of their usefulness. If the parts start making noise they are just discarded and replaced. They can be good otherwise, so it's important to know they don't have to be worn outor have excessive movement to make noise.

Since the year 2000, Honda has required their dealers to have Steelman ChassisEars. They found that using this tool helped to accurately diagnose noises, which reduced warranty costs. Denlors has automotive tools to help replace worn suspension parts, see our ball joint tools.

How to Save Money on a Bathroom Renovation

A limited renovation budget does not have to mean you are stuck with a bathroom straight out of the seventies. The good news about a bathroom renovation investment is that you may be able to recoup the money at resale, provided you do not overspend and the work is high quality. Though over-renovation may not be a wise investment, leaving your bathroom a few decades behind will not help resale value either. You can give your bathroom a fresh new look and spare your bank account by choosing cost effective cosmetic updates and keeping these renovation ideas in mind.

One Step at a Time
Planning ahead will help ensure that your choices fit within your overall budget and help you achieve a cohesive style in your renovated bathroom. Many home renovators are hindered by an all-or-nothing approach to bathroom remodeling, but you do not have to go all in on a costly renovation to reap the benefits of an updated bathroom. Planning your full renovation ahead but tackling only one or two projects at a time takes patience, but will ultimately give you the remodeled bathroom you seek with a minimum impact on your finances.

Resourcefulness with Energy Efficient Upgrades
Many cities, states and utility providers offer rebates, credits or other incentives for replacing toilets, faucets or shower heads with water conserving low-flow models. Taking advantage of incentives offered through energy conservation programs can help you stay within your renovation budget, with the added bonus of reduced utility expenses each month.

The Update-or-Replace Conundrum
Many bathroom renovation projects come with a choice: update or replace? You may invest in new vanity cabinets, or you may paint or refinish existing ones. Alternatively, you may compromise and replace only the cabinet faces. Bathtubs and countertops can be replaced, or they may be reglazed to look and function like new. Even outdated tiles can be refurbished instead of replaced. Do not assume that you have to replace everything in your bathroom to get the look you want. With some research, careful prioritizing and of course, patience, you can give your bathroom a stylish update at a fraction of the cost of new materials.

Hiring Professionals for the Right Jobs
If you are relatively handy, a great way to save money is to tackle some jobs yourself and hire a professional for those that are outside of your skill set. Making an honest assessment of your capabilities and time availability is key to this decision, especially since work of subpar quality can hurt more than it helps home value. When hiring a contractor for certain aspects of your remodeling project, it is typically advised to get at least three quotes to find a fair price on the job.

It is often said that home renovations always cost more and take longer than anticipated. In addition to starting out with realistic goals and expectations for your renovation schedule, setting aside a contingency fund for unexpected expenses can help you stay within your renovation budget. By allocating your renovation budget wisely, you will be well on your way to a beautifully renovated bathroom that no longer invokes the sentiment of decades past.

How to Repair Your Luggage While Traveling

Traveling normally takes a lot of time to prepare for. Long distance holiday trips take more time to plan for because there is a lot of luggage to be carried. Some trips go smoothly while others normally suffer from several incidents. The incidents may vary from case to case, but the most common is the luggage getting damaged. Traveling does not have to be a hassle because of your luggage. Having some tips in luggage repair can make your trip less stressful. Here is what you can do to repair your luggage while traveling:

Carry Your Patching And Sewing Kit
During trips and camping excursions, it is common for luggage to get torn or for threads to come off. If you carried your patching and sewing kit, you may find them handy during such times. You will not have to unpack your belongings and look for alternative luggage, because you can do the sewing and patching by yourself. This saves you on time and cost that might have used by taking it to a luggage repair shop or buying some new luggage.

Carry Extra Buttons
Another common problem that holiday makers and travelers encounter is when buttons come off from their luggage. This can make the trip a frustrating one and it may lead to loss of valuable property. Travelers can carry spare buttons during their trips when luggage buttons unexpectedly come off and are lost during the journey. Travelers who have spare buttons usually save on time because they can easily fix the buttons back on to their luggage by sewing them. This saves on cost and it can save a person's valuable property. Buttons can be cheaply obtained from luggage and cloth repair stalls, or from old clothing.

Wax Sticks
Nearly all travelers have experienced luggage zipper problems during their trips. Zippers can malfunction due to many reasons like carrying too many items in your luggage. To make them function, zippers may need to be replaced with spare ones or sometimes they just need some waxing in order to get them functioning again. Candle or wax sticks come in handy at such times. If the malfunction is a major one like broken zippers, you may need to replace the zipper with a spare one.

Carry Luggage Spare Parts
If you suspect that a certain part of your luggage will experience some problems, it might be good to carry spare parts. You may suspect that your luggage handle , wheels, or other accessories may experience problems and carrying their spare parts can make your trip less frustrating and save you from expensive luggage repair costs.

Travelers and holiday makers can use the above tips to safeguard themselves against the frustrations that come when their luggage experiences some problems. The tips are less costly and save a lot of time that might have been taken in luggage repair shops. Holidaymakers going to some places for the first time will not need to worry about finding luggage repairmen or shops in those areas if they apply the basic luggage repair tips that have been discussed.

Metal Stair Tread Brackets - Stair Building Safety

Metal stair tread brackets are used instead of wood cleats and for plenty of good reasons. These often become a safety hazard over time, as the wood starts to deteriorate. Metal, will not disintegrate as fast as the wood it is normally attached to. In most cases the wood stringers and steps will suffer from wood rot or termite damage before the metal brackets become a safety problem.

Metal stair brackets, often require lag screws instead of nails or screws to attach the stair step to the stringer. These lag screws are normally an inch and a quarter for the stair treads, if they are built from 2 x materials. For example a 2 x 12 or 2 x 14 stair tread will require lag screws that will not go through the wood step. A 2 inch like screw will easily go through an inch and a half stair tread. If you're building a stairway, this will be useful information.

Some metal stair connectors have four holes on each side of the metal bracket for the lag screws, while other metal stair brackets have three holes on each side. This normally depends on the thickness of the stair tread and the use of the stairway. Public stairways will normally require the stronger stair tread connector.

During my career of building stairways, I have seen quite a few metal stair tread brackets. Some builders had custom made brackets to meet specific stair tread applications, while others used Simpson products, that are more readily available to home builders and contractors.

One of the biggest problems I have noticed, using metal stair parts is the lag screws can loosen up over time, creating a safety hazard. Warping treads, along with stair steps that split where the lag screw is located, seem to be the biggest problems associated with metal brackets. There are stair building safety codes that should be followed when building or remodeling stairways.

Staircases are normally high traffic areas and should be maintained regularly. Public stairways with high traffic areas should be maintained more often. Anyone walking up and down the stairways should notify the building owner of any problems, to prevent accidents in the future.

Greg Vanden Berge is working on the internet to promote the education for creating simple to follow guides and home building books to help professional building contractors as well as the weekend warriors. He is currently working on building straight stairs and adding useful content to help solve problems created by the lack of construction knowledge in the building industry.

How to Remove Pet Stains

You can find all kinds of products that will help you to remove nearly all types of stains. The perfect solution in completely removing stains is by cleaning the spills and dirt the second they appear.

There are a number of ways to clean up stains by using products in your home which you use frequently, such as detergents, rubbing alcohol, vinegar, lemon juice, etc. You just need to know how to use these regular household products.

Your first option is to use 1 teaspoon of clear, household type ammonia and a half cup of cold water. You can apply this solution to the carpet directly or use it in a spray bottle. It is crucial not to wet the carpets backing when you use the solution. Once you have applied the solution, you can use paper towels to blot; allow it to dry from top to bottom.

Your second option is to use detergent solution made of dish soap or hand soap. The ideal combination is one quart of water and one quarter of a teaspoon detergent. You need to make sure the soap does not contain lanolin or bleach.

Your third option is to use water. It will re-hydrate the stain to help with removal. The majority of pet stains can be cleaned up by using a steam cleaner. Once you are done, be sure to dry the area as completely as possible.

Ink stains

1. Buy isopropyl rubbing alcohol.

2. Apply it by pouring some onto a clean white towel or cloth. You can use paper towels if they are white.

3. Blot the stain as much as possible until it is cleaned.

4. Be careful, because if the stain is small, you should blot in one direction only so you do not spread the stain.

Beer and wine stains

1. Mix a solution with 1 part water and 1 part white vinegar.

2. Apply the mixture to the stain. You can use a spray bottle to saturate.

3. Allow the stain to sit around 10 to 15 minutes.

4. Use a sponge and clean in a rubbing motion.

5. Rinse the area with warm water.

6. Brush the carpet pile back into the natural direction it has.

7. Use layers of white paper towels; place them on top of the area; put something heavy on the paper towels. Wait until the area has dried.

Protect your carpet against paint drips, snow, mud, dirt, stains, and heavy traffic conditions. Read about plastic carpet protections as well as temporary carpet protections.

How to Get a Dry Basement - Home Repair Tips

When you have a basement under your home, there is nothing better than having a dry basement. Having one that is moist and smells musty all of the time can become rather irritating. This is especially true when that smell comes through the floor of your home and into your house. So if you don't have a dry basement and you are wondering how to get one and keep it that way, there are several things that you can do to make this possible.

Here is what you want to do:

First, check the drainage systems around your home to make sure they are diverting water away from your home. Make sure shrubs are not too close to the foundation and plug any holes and cracks that may be in the walls. From there, you want to identify your biggest problem areas. You can usually tell because water leaves a white powder, which consists of mineral deposits.

The next step is to dig a trench with a jackhammer around the basement walls.

Cut a hole in the floor. This is the area that will hold your brand new sump pump. Make sure you take measurements before cutting the hole so that you can ensure a proper feet.

You can put up bright walls to hide water stains and to create a barrier that will channel any water that comes through the walls into the trench.

After the bright walls are installed, you can then install a series of drains in the trench. If you need other pipes, you can do this and use those pipes to channel water to the trench. The trench leads to the sump pump.

Any spaces between the trench and the floor can be filled in with crushed rock to avoid any gaps.

Once this system is in place, the sump pump will pump the water outside of the home. Just make sure that the water is diverted away from the home via a drainage system so that the water does not come back into the basement. If it comes back into the basement, then you're dealing with a never ending cycle of water coming in and out. This can weaken your basement walls, can cause water to seep below the basement floors, and many other issues. Any time the walls and floors become weak, they crack. When they crack, more pressure is put on the walls of the home itself and this can cause them to crack as well. This also occurs when your home sits on soils that are known for shifting. Keeping the soils dry is the best way to keep this from happening. The only way you're going to keep them dry is to have a good drainage system outside of your home and to ensure that your basement stays dry.

You'll find that having a dry basement is a great way to save a lot of money on future repairs from water damage. So make sure you're high and dry and keep it that way.

Keep Beaver Out With a Protective Fence

You may have heard horror stories about beaver damage to trees or other property. It does not stop at tree damage, either. Beaver have been known to cause additional property damage by burrowing under yards and roadways. This all can be a real headache, and many people are driven to preventative action.

One option you might explore is constructing a protective fence around targeted trees or other areas. Remember that beaver can chew through a lot of tough materials, so you will need to use something like galvanized metal. Chicken wire is usually the first material property owners use, but it may not be enough to stop your beaver problem. Start by wrapping your wire around the affected trees, or any other trees you would like to protect. How high should your covering go? Around three to four feet is usually adequate to prevent most beaver damage. You also will want to extend the wire about 18 inches below surface level, if possible.

You can also use a similar method to protect other areas of your property, like fences or posts. After installing your protective covering, check back often to see if there is any sign of damage. Beaver may continue to chew at the areas, and may find some success in destroying your new fence. Try using a stronger material if the first fence fails you.

I hope this article has provided you with some insight into preventing beaver damage. This can be a daunting task, but a necessary one if you plan to remain on your property. Tree damage can bring down property value and threaten your house or other structures in some cases. The longer you wait, the more likely you are to become a victim of worse damage.

Motivation Theories

There have been several motivational theories created by people over time, however seeing how they are theories and not proven facts there are some that people believe and others that people do not believe. One of the most popular and well known theories comes from Abraham Maslow and it is called the hierarchy of needs.

This theory is taught in many philosophy and psychology classes in schools all over North America. It states that people would like to satisfy different needs and some of them we find more important than others. Not only this but some of these needs are more pressing then the others. As we satisfy one of our needs, it then becomes less important to us, other needs therefore become more important to us and become motivators of our behavior.

Maslow therefore says we have a hierarchy of needs. The most proponent needs that we have are shown at the bottom of the ladder, as the prepotency decreases we progresses upwards. The first need is called self actualization needs. Self actualization needs require meeting your own best potential and for you to do your own best things.

The next one is called esteem. Esteem involves having respect for other individuals having respect for yourself and also recognition. After this we have belonging which is being affiliated being accepted and also being apart of something. The second last one is safety needs, which is being physically safe and having psychological security. Last but not least there is physiological which includes hunger, thirst, sex and rest.

Another motivational theory is that we are motivated by money. Money means different things for different people. Money can mean status, survival, belonging achievement and a lot of other things, you can take your pick. In the end it all simply depends on the type of person that you are.

Action - It Speaks Louder Than Words

I'm sure you've heard that action speaks louder than words before and similar phrases and words of wisdom. Do you know that our actions can produce great things or they can also be destructive if we speak mindlessly? It is wise to think before we speak and be a good listener too. If we don't pay attention to details, we might miss out on the important stuff we could be asked about later. Inaction doesn't get you anywhere. There is nothing to show if you sit out the life game. The time that passes you by, you will never get back. Time is very important. We should never waste it by missing out on the lecture at college, the important presentation at work or the free time we have to ourselves and family.

Be productive and take positive action now. What is it that you want to do or need to do? Write down the pluses and minuses of your actions. Do the benefits outweigh the negatives? Right there is your answer to begin with. Don't put it off until tomorrow. Get started now before another minute passes you by. Write down notes of how you intend to accomplish your mission. You can always record your thoughts if that is more convenient. If you don't have a well constructed plan, the action may not be successful.

Be determined that your plan of action will work and therefore set good goals. Take it one step at a time and everything will probably turn out the way you planned. Don't be too hasty to find your end result. All good things take time. If you planned wisely and set realistic goals, your actions will reap good results that you can be proud of. Your determination to complete your project will have been a worthwhile exploit.

Get Up and Keep Going! Don't Stop

We often forget when we were babies, before we started walking we crawled everywhere. And one day out of nowhere we stud up on our own two feet and took our very 1st step. What were they very next thing that happened? That's right, we fell down right on our face. Not one of our parents said "Oh poor baby. Stay down don't get up." Instead the said "Good job baby... Get up" and they provoked you to do it again. What happened next? You fell again. They said get up and do it again. Every time you got up, you fell.

Until one day you walked across the room.. YEAH!!! You did it. Your parent grabbed the video camera and recorded you walking around. They called everyone and told them the good new of your 1st steps. Everyone that came to visit they showed the video with a sparkle in their eye.

With the way things are, most of us have fallen down. Some of us have fell to our knees. Some have fallen on our backside. Some have fallen flat on our face. And it hurts. But it's no time to stay on the floor and say, "I'll never try again." "That hurt I'm going to go hide in the corner."

Failure hurts but you need to GET UP, dust yourself off, and keep going! If our parents never told us to get up, we would probably never learn how to walk. We would have never learned how to run. We would not learn how to take on new challenges.

So make a decision TODAY, Right now to make a change. Be committed, get up and thrive because YOU CAN does it! I know you can.

Are You Happy to Lead a Mediocre Life Just Because Others Do?

When we read historical novels, we may laugh at the pointless lives that the gentry of that period led. The well to do who lived centuries ago spent their lives in idle pursuits totally oblivious (in most cases) to the wretchedness of the poor who spent all their waking hours working in return for meagre sustenance. And they were so overly concerned with living their lives according to regimented protocol; it just wasn't "the done thing" to do things differently than the way the neighbours did things. The lives of the poor were just as pointless because they failed to realise that they could improve themselves if only they tried. The few who did succeed in breaking free of poverty were generally ostracised by their families because they dared to do things differently.

But are we any different today? Have we really learnt anything at all? The activities of the 21st century are vastly different from those of previous times but many are just as pointless. And today, in this current advanced era, people on the whole are still far too concerned with what their family, friends and neighbours think. Very few people are willing to change.

Is your life perfect? If it is then there is no need to change anything. But I have never yet met anyone with a perfect life, have you? Some people have a career they love but their family life suffers. Some people have very good relationships with their families and friends but their health and fitness are not very good. And some people have a totally stuffed up life in nearly all areas. Even if we have some things right, there are always areas in which we can improve ourselves, we shouldn't just get to a certain age and stop. Life is all about learning; it isn't something reserved for the young.

People will say, "Oh I couldn't do it that way because everyone I know does it this way!" But are all those people you know getting perfect results! Very unlikely! So why keep doing things a certain way, with mediocre results, just because everyone else does it that way? Isn't it time to make a change and do things your own way? Maybe, just maybe, you will see vast improvements in your life. And if you stuff up or don't get it quite right the first time, don't give up. Just keep on trying things out until you find what really works for you. Don't be bothered by those who try to deter you. Your true friends will support you and the opinion of the rest of them doesn't matter!

One thing to remember - if others object to what you are doing or becoming, it is because it is a reflection of something in their own lives that they need to deal with. When they see you becoming successful in some area of your life, they feel unsettled because they know that they should be trying to make improvements in their lives too and you are reminding them of that deficiency in themselves! So it is never about you, it is about them. The sad fact is that most people are quite prepared to plod along living a mediocre existence. They really cannot see that there are better possibilities for them if only they make an effort. But you can see the possibilities, so go and live your dreams!

Motivation - The 4-Point Motivational Matrix For Getting You Unstuck

If you've ever found yourself saying you want to do something (or experience some kind of benefit) but you can't seem to get yourself to do it, that probably means there is some kind of dichotomy at play between the benefits and consequences of acting and not acting. This NLP tool can help you figure out what they are so you can strengthen the benefits of acting and/or the consequences of not acting and get yourself in motion.

1. First, pull out a piece of paper and divide it into four quadrants (like you did in school with the x and y axis) - Make sure it covers the whole piece of paper.

2. At the top of the page, write the goal you want to achieve but haven't been acting on. (Example, "Exercise every day")

3. In the top left-hand quadrant, write "Consequences of Taking Action." Now, think of what you feel you might have to give up or lose out on in order to take action/achieve this goal. Write everything that comes to you in that quadrant. (e.g., I won't be able to sleeping longer; I'll have to go to bed earlier; I won't be able to stay up late watching a favorite show; I'll have to work/move; I'll have to sweat; I'll feel pain, etc.)

4. In the top right-hand quadrant (at the top), write "Benefits of Taking Action." Think of what you will gain by taking action/achieving this goal. Write everything that comes to you in that quadrant (e.g., I'll be able to lose weight, I'll feel better; I'll get back into my smaller clothes; I'll be able to get more dates; I can get off medication; I'll have more energy; I can live longer; I can hike mountains/run races again/bend over and not pass out, etc.)

5. In the bottom left-hand quadrant (at the bottom), write "Consequences of NOT Taking Action." Think of what positives you'll likely be giving up or missing out on if you don't take action/achieve this goal. Write everything that comes to you in that quadrant (e.g., I won't be able to play much with my kids/grandkids,I'll die sooner; I won't be able to climb Chichen Itza when I go on my trip to Cancun; I'll stay a size ____ or larger forever; my diabetes will get worse and I'll have to start giving myself insulin shots; I'll die of a heart attack; my health insurance costs will rise more; etc.). Be very honest and think of all the possible probabilities to you and others you care about.

6. In the bottom left-hand quadrant (at the bottom), write "Benefits of NOT Taking Action." Think of what you get to keep or do that you will enjoy if you don't take action/achieve this goal. Write everything that comes to you in that quadrant (e.g., I won't have to worry about going to bed earlier or getting up earlier to fit it in; I won't have to sweat; I can keep being lazy; I can watch TV instead; I won't have to pay for (more) exercise equipment/ gym membership; I won't have to buy smaller clothes; I can hold onto my identity as the funny fat guy; I won't lose weight and get unwanted attention from men like I did in the past; I can keep smoking; etc.).

7. Now, look over the items in each quadrant and ask yourself: "What items in the top-left and bottom-right quadrants have the strongest emotional charge to them?" Put stars next to them or highlight them. These are most likely the strongest influencers to you staying stuck in inaction (or inconsistent action).

8. One of the laws of the mind is that when there are two conflicting emotions, the stronger one always wins out. In order to move into action NOW and on a consistent basis to achieve your goal(s), you need to find ways to punch holes in the validity of these unproductive beliefs or decrease their emotional charge, or to make the emotional charge of the other quadrants greater.

Visualization, affirmations, and other tools such as those I use with or teach my clients (hypnosis, NLP, EFT, etc.) are the most effective and quickest ways to make this switch in your thoughts and get what you REALLY want in life and achieve your highest good. That's what we're all deserving of.

Tackling Tasks

One of the best ways of getting things done is to think of them as a goal to be achieved. Do this constantly and get into the habit of always having goals and moving towards them successfully. If this becomes a practice that you scrupulously follow, you will find that if life does throw a problem at you, you will already be having the mindset required to solve that problem by treating it as a goal to be achieved. I practice this myself constantly. There are days and sometimes weeks together when no real problem comes to me in my normally sedate life. But everyday I present myself with a problem to be solved or a task to be accomplished, and concentrate on that day to move towards the solution to my problem. It is sometimes something as mundane as having to pay the telephone bill, or going to the barbers and having my hair trimmed. But I do treat these as problems, find the time and the wherewithal to accomplish those tasks and end the day with something having been achieved.

There are days when the pending tasks to things to be done seem to stretch a long way. At these times I do sit myself down and decide on which are the tasks that need the priority. Quite often things just come on to your list of things to be done, because they are there. They may be of no urgency and even quite often of no real consequence to any one but you. So just let them go or leave them for another day. Even when you have a fair number of things to do, prioritize them as per their need to be done, the convenience of doing them or even the ease of doing them. Get rid of the small easy things first so all of a sudden you will find the list of things to be done as having shrunk and become very manageable.

Do take some time to introspect and reflect on the things you have done or accomplished throughout the day and feel that sense of satisfaction that comes over you. Reflect on whether the things you have done could have been done in any other way or even avoided altogether by some preemptive action on your part. There may be things in your list which you had to do because of your negligence or not finding the time to them at the appropriate time. Stow away this knowledge for the future.

Writing is a hobby which I have picked up again after being away from it for a couple of decades. Whether I will be successful and be able to earn some money from writing I do not know. But one thing is certain. The hours of the day go by quite easily when I am writing and reading, and that is how I would like the rest of my life to be.

Never Be Satisfied and Become Famous by Morning

If you don't grow you stagnate and die.

Thomas Edison knew this as a basic need of the soul. On this he says:

"Restlessness is discontent and discontent is the first necessity of progress. Show me a thoroughly satisfied man and I will show you a failure."

Some people say "what is the purpose of life?"

I like to put it differently and say "to live a life it must have purpose!"

You may have heard the story of a man who has worked all his life towards a comfortable retirement. He has paid off his house, put his children through schools to see them off into the world. He saw his job as a means to an end. He did it well with due diligence and was respected by his peers. Upon his retirement he was given a gold watch and many congratulations and well wishes from colleagues. Off he goes to enjoy the retirement he has worked so hard for.

Six months later he is dead.

Although extreme or just plain blunt as this story may seem, it has played itself in many different ways over the years with similar outcomes.

Your body, mind and soul all need a purpose. At the core of this purpose is personal growth. And if we are not growing, learning, achieving or striving for something better, a new experience improved knowledge or personal power what have we left?

So never be satisfied with your lot in life, never believe you know all there is to know and never ever think that you have achieved all that you can achieve.

Never be satisfied and become Famous By Morning!

The Seven Keys to Motivation

Motivation. Its a complicated subject that is studied by
many and understood by few. Virtually every aspect of
human life -- from the mundane to the life-changing -- is
guided, swayed and altered by motivating factors.

For instance, what to have for dinner may be motivated by a
desire to lose or gain weight. Whether or not to attend a
business seminar may be motivated by the speakers,
location and cost. When and where to buy new clothing may
be motivated by a long list of personal preferences as well
as the changing seasons and weather conditions.

Even reading this article is a motivated behavior. Do you
like the style of writing? Are you curious about the subject
matter? Do you have a desire to learn new information? Do
you have enough time to finish reading? If the answers are
no, you probably wont continue reading!

But since you have continued, you are obviously motivated.
You want to learn more about how to get and stay
motivated, and how this motivation can help you become a
better business owner.

THE BUSINESS OF MOTIVATION
Motivation is one of the most powerful driving forces in the
workplace. It can mean the difference between tremendous
success and failure.

Motivation stems from two sources. The first part of
motivation is external or extrinsic (outside the person)
sources. Other motivating factors come from internal
forces, which are mainly your thoughts, patterns and
collective experiences.

However, humans are unique, so what motivates Jack will
not necessarily motivate Jill. You -- and only you -- will be
able to determine what works.

Take the time to examine what internal and external factors
are motivating you as a business owner. What can you do
to enhance and refine your motivation to make yourself
more productive and more fulfilled?

Here are seven keys to motivation that may prove helpful.

1. INSPIRATION
Inspiration is critical to getting and staying motivated. If you
are not interested in your business, your motivation level will
never be high and you wont be able to sustain interest for
very long.

On the flip side, if you are energized and excited about the
work you are doing, you will have more persistence, energy
and intensity.

Take an honest look at your inspiration level. Are you
excited about going to work or is it an obligation? You would
be surprised at the number of people who choose a
business that looks good on paper, but in reality does not
interest them in the least. These individuals will grow
weary
and uninterested pretty quickly because they have no
inspiration or passion to sustain them during the difficult
times they will encounter as a small business owner.

If you dont really enjoy your work, then think how you can
re-focus your small business to better match your needs.
Or consider making a change entirely. Thats pretty drastic
advice, but inspiration is that important.

2. SETTING GOALS
Short and long-term goal setting is vital for any business
owner. If you didnt set goals, you would be adrift with
nothing to strive for and no charted course to follow.

How could you possibly be motivated if you were unsure
about the direction of your company?

Take the time to put your goals in writing. A business plan
may sound daunting, but it is really nothing more than
goals, strategies, implementation and a budget. Write your
own business plan and update it at least annually. Include
mini-goals that can be accomplished in a matter of hours,
days or weeks as well as the more ambitious grand-goals
that may take years to complete. Refer to this plan
throughout the year.

But can a business plan really help motivate you? Yes!
Written goals will make you feel more professional and
certainly more connected to your business. It will also free
you from having to reinvent your business goals every single
day.

3. NETWORKING
Another key factor in getting and staying motivated is
networking with other small business owners. One person
can't move huge mountains. However, when a number of
people begin working together the mountains are suddenly
only small hills -- simply challenges waiting to be
surmounted.

In fact, the isolation of working alone is of one the most
difficult parts of being an entrepreneur. Mutual support is
motivating. So, make it easier on yourself by connecting
with others either in your community or online. Even when
businesses are not related, you will often find common
ground and ways to work together.

Many successful entrepreneurs report that finding the right
networking group was a turning point in the growth of the
business. Working together, a networking group can help
its members generate more qualified sales leads and solve
problems faster and more efficiently. Sharing ideas,
expertise and experience is also an invaluable aspect of
networking groups. And, dont forget about sharing costs,
possibly by buying in bulk or with joint marketing projects.

Your own personal team of business owners will help
re-energize you when the burdens of running your own
business seem too much. With your networking team to
rely on, you can accomplish more in less time and probably
have more fun in the process. Certainly, you will feel less
alone.

4. REWARD YOURSELF
Small business owners will always have to work hard, but
all work and no play is a huge mistake. Your motivation will
soon begin to fall if you never take any time away from the
demands of running the business.

So, plan frequent rewards for yourself. No, it doesnt need
to be a trip to Hawaii (although this is a great idea). Your
reward can be as simple as a lunch out with an old friend, a
matinee with your significant other, an afternoon of
shopping or a relaxing massage.

If your budget and time will allow, take a few days off for a
short trip or simply schedule a vacation from work for a few
days. Make it a real vacation -- even if you dont leave town --
so no checking email, voice mail or the fax machine. You
need to get away, unwind and renew yourself. This down
time to regenerate will help improve your attitude and
perspective. It sounds corny, but you will come back to your
business with a new sense of motivation.

5. EXERCISE
While it isnt always immediately apparent, there is a
powerful connection between the mind and the body. It is
vital for every small business owner to take breaks and
exercise -- everyday. If your body isnt healthy, your
motivation will certainly suffer.

These exercise breaks dont have to be huge blocks of time,
and you neednt spend money joining a gym or hiring a
personal trainer. Start by walking briskly for 30 minutes
before, during or after work. After you have incorporated a
walk each day, then try doubling the time or doing two walks
each day.

Whatever works for you is best, but the important thing is to
start. You will begin to feel better.

After the walking is part of your routine, add some basic light
weights. Buy a tape or go online to find out how to properly
use the weights so you wont injure yourself.

You can keep the weights under your desk, and use them
for just a few minutes at a time. Buy a timer the next time
you are at the grocery store. Set the timer for for three
minutes to start and then add a minute or two until youre up
to 10 or 15 minutes each day.

Some small business owners have a television at work and
they schedule a CNN break along with their weights. This
way, they are catching up with world and local news while
simultaneously getting some moderate exercise.

8. ORGANIZE
Organization is critical to motivation. How can you feel good
about your work, when you cant find important papers or
you are constantly late returning messages? Your
business will falter and your motivation will suffer.

Some people just cant get organized. If you are one of
them, then consider bringing in someone -- a business
friend, family member or professional -- to help you get the
clutter and mess cleaned up. You will be amazed at how
this one important step will help you get back on the
organizational track. Dont stop there. Now really get
organized by creating business systems that will help you
streamline your operations.

The real challenge will be keeping yourself on track by
maintaining these systems. For many, it is a daily
challenge, but if you use your organizational systems youll
be free to think about other important issues.

7. MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKERS AND AUTHORS
As small business owners, it seems we are bombarded
with motivational ideas and materials-- tapes, books, CDs,
seminars, workbooks, videos and more. Why are there so
many different motivational products, authors and
speakers? Because people are buying these materials.
Used effectively, they are effective and therefore they sell!

However, there are so many different motivational gurus that
it is often difficult to see through the clutter to find someone
that makes sense for you -- someone who can get you fired
up about working and improving your business.

Try talking to your mentor or networking group members to
see who they might recommend. Start being aware of the
motivational industry and how it might help you become
more enthused and positive about your business. Do some
light research of your own to find some authors and
speakers that interest you.

Before you invest in motivational materials, you can probably
find some inexpensive ways to obtain the materials. Check
out your local library, tune into your local PBS station, buy
materials with a networking friend, visit used bookstores or
buy used materials online. Dont make a huge investment,
because you will probably want to sample many different
viewpoints.

But do these materials really work? Yes, but only if you
make the effort. Just like exercise, you have to work the
muscles -- in this case your mind muscles.

It is up to you to take that information and apply it to your own
life and business. Really use the motivational ideas over a
period of time and you will begin to see results.

KEEP THE MOMENTUM GOING
Motivation is what moves us forward in our daily and
business lives. Take the time to examine your motivating
factors and use some of these keys to improve your focus
and renew your enthusiasm. If you keep on track, the
motivation momentum cant help but carry you forward.

I Hate My Job!

Bored? Frustrated? Yearning for retirement? Feel as if you are in the same rut you have been in since forever? That is understandable in this day and age. Chances are you probably loathe your job at this point. Feel sure that you are not alone, and many people out there want to find purpose in their life. Like the song from Peggy Lee: Is that All There Is? You want more out of life. You want to really move forward and thrive, and feel good about what you do, and you maybe just thinking about a career change.

As with any change you will need to assess your likes and dislikes of your current job and/or career. Many people change jobs because of boredom, dislike of the job, don't like working for the man (boss), or the company. Ask yourself a deeper question. What do you like or dislike about your current position? Figure out what excites you and gives you energy. I bet you would say right here right now that nothing at the current place of employment neither excites or energizes.

1. So, what did you first like about your job that made you want to work there? In order to examine and figure out a new career we must assess the old one. So, think about it carefully. What are the things you do that you are good at, and yet will not give you job satisfaction?

2. What are the things at your current place of employment which you hate and despise? These tasks may be good, and you do them satisfactorily, but not necessarily like.

3. Now we get to the fun part of the assessment. What do you truly love to do? This task will give you energy, and provide a sense of fulfillment, and enthusiasm for a job well done.

We have just answered some of the hard questions in assessing where we have been, and where we feel energy. The next step will be to find your passion. This passion is either something that you love to do, or something you have done in your past, or could be even a hobby. The most important gift we can give to ourselves is learning how to assess where we are, and what are passions are, no matter how strange they may seem to everyone else.

There are many, many assessments out there to help you choose what career you would like, but how do you find what you really want to do. The passion inside you is the clue. Donny Deutsch state in the latest Success Magazine that to explore your passion is primary, but to go a little beyond your passions, and dig into your childhood. What did you like to do as a child? Did you like to build things? Did you like to create new fangled instruments and use tools? Maybe you even created new tools. What was it that you liked to do? Therein lies your passion, or an expression of your passion. With your passion found, then you will be able to add to that your likes and don't likes from your current job. All of these together will enable you to find a new career that you will truly enjoy.

There are examples after examples of people finding their passion, and creating a new career out of their likes and their passions. The trick for you is to believe in yourself that will enable you to become what you want your new career to be. Look closely at these answers. These answers will enable you to find your purpose.

To begin your dream job, I recommend you keep your day job as they say, and start creating your dream job, one step at a time. What I know is this: You have bills, and a family to take care of and provide for. You have insurance needs, and mortgage payments to keep up with. Tread slowly at first. Dip your feet into your passion slowly at first. Look around to see if anyone else is doing just that, and ask to become an apprentice. This way everyone benefits, the person you work for will get free labor, and you will find out if you truly like this new career. Use this new passion as a part time job. You can't have everything you want overnight, but you can take one step at a time.

Fed up in a rut, take these words to heart. Assess where you are in your current job/position. Look into the likes and don't likes from the job you have. Explore the skills of your tasks and find out which tasks give you energy, and which do not. By all means find your passion. If you find your passion, and you start working with it, your stress levels will decrease and your life experience will manifest into more joy.

How to Landscape a Large Yard

If you are scratching your head on how to landscape a large yard, this article will offer a step-by-step approach towards designing and building your dream yard regardless of its size. But take note that some tips here may not be applicable to you since the climate and soil conditions of your front and backyard may be different.

1. Start planning the project. As usual, you need to decide how many hours and how much is your budget. Take a look at the designs that you desire to have. Magazines, online sites or even your neighborhood are some places to start looking. Landscaping a large yard can be a lot easier if you already have a good idea of what you want.

2. Draft the entire layout of your yard detailing the lawn area, location of trees, fixtures, stone pavements etc. The more detailed it is, the better it is.

3. Indicate topographical lines to indicate slopes, rocky areas etc that are not flat.

4. Think about how you want to landscape your large yard on the overall. First, plan your lawn area. If you have children, you may want to set aside space for a playground. Those who wish to have a vegetable garden should also set aside land for it. Take note that wetlands, rocky terrains and low places are not suitable for lawn as the grasses do not grow well. Areas that are shielded from the sun, for example below a huge tree is suitable for a patio, bench or swing. Do not grow anything there.

5. You may wish to level the sloping areas, ie cut back or backfill parts that are depressed. In any case, you need o have a good idea of how much soil you are going to remove and fill. This allows you to know how many truckloads of soil you need to purchase or dispose of. Talk to the truck or trailer company you are hiring.

6. Visit the local nursery and speak with the experts. With your plan in hand and an estimated budget, request them for a design if you are going to hire them to landscape your large yard. If you plan to do it yourself, there is no harm in asking them for their recommendations and suggestions of the type of green suitable for your yard. It could be fruit trees, nut trees, shrubs and bushes. Pecan trees, blueberries, grapevines, berry shrubs etc are often suitable for the southern climate.

7. Lay out and install irrigation piping, set up the electric conduits for power supply to the patio and landscape lighting. If you are planning to have a manmade pond, then pumps are necessary.

8. Once you have planted your flower beds and permanent landscape fixtures like lightings, patio, barbecue pits, stone pavements, etc, it is time to finish off the work by grading the area.

9. If you are planning a mini vegetable garden, make use of the corners of the boundary fence to optimize space. Set up a garden netting about 1 to 2 feet away the fence for planting beans and peas. Make sure this is at a distance away from your playground to protect these vegetables from trampling.

10. Lay the layer of lawn grass and water them. Now, you have the complete steps to landscape a large yard.

Nothing in the World Takes the Place of Persistence

Let me tell you the secret that has led me to my goal: my strength lies solely in my tenacity ~Louis Pasteur

It seems so simple and yet it's the most overlooked ingredient in success. Persistence is the cornerstone of ANY successful endeavor.

Nothing in the world takes the place of persistence.

Thomas Edison tried 10,000 different things before he figured out how to successfully create a light bulb. 10,000! When people commented on his many failures he replied, "I have not failed, I've just found 10,000 ways that don't work". Edison understood that every unsuccessful attempt put him one step closer to reaching his goal.

Nothing in the world takes the place of persistence.

Abraham Lincoln lost his job, was defeated for state legislature, failed in business, had a nervous breakdown, was defeated for speaker of the house, defeated for nomination for Congress, rejected for land officer, defeated for US Senate twice, and defeated for nomination for Vice President, before being elected President.

Nothing in the world takes the place of persistence.

Oprah Winfrey was told she wasn't fit for television. Michael Jordan was cut from the varsity basketball team his sophomore year in high school. Bob Dylan was booed off the stage when he began to change his musical style. JK Rowling was turned down by nine different publishers before she found one to print her Harry Potter series.

Nothing in the world takes the place of persistence.

Have you let obstacles get in the way of your success? Have you let go of your dream because it got too difficult?

It's not too late! You can have the life you deserve.

Start today.

Take one small step each day to your dream and you WILL achieve it!

Making a Habit of Personal Development

It can be a rather amusing task to sit back and analyze some of the daily rituals we perform, often without giving any conscious thought. I believe this is a good thing because we would accomplish very little if we had to stop and think about every task we perform.

Just today, I was making the short drive from my home to the library where I do most of my writing, when I noticed I had been completely engrossed in thoughts about the book I am writing. I had to look in the back seat to check if I even brought my laptop and writing materials. I then became aware of all of the other things that had to take place just to make this short trip. Among other things, I had to put on my shoes, put on my jacket, walk from the house to the car, unlock the car with the key less entry, place my bag in the back seat, sit in the driver's seat, fasten my seat belt, start the car, and so on. The entire time this was happening, my thoughts were directed towards my task for the day.

This got me thinking about some of the other habit patterns in our life that we consciously decide to do without really asking ourselves if the task is really the most important thing on our list. For example, many people choose to watch a number of hours of television each day. I personally know people who spend an unusual amount of time daily cleaning their home or randomly browsing the internet. The point I am trying to make is that most of us can probably uncover at least one hour of time each day that we give to meaningless tasks.

The interesting thing is, if you ask most people if they are happy with all of the results in their life, the truthful answer is often no.

My goal is to encourage people to dedicate some time every single day to personal reflection and self development. If you are unhappy with a certain situation, you have the ability to change your thinking, and ultimately your behaviour, so that you can improve that particular circumstance. Instead of watching a daytime drama or indulging in excessive dusting and mopping, you might want to consider picking up a book or audio program that forces you to examine your results.

From my personal experience, this simple action produces an internal reaction. Because you are examining your own personal results, you quickly realize that you are the only one who can change them. Unfortunately, in our society today, people are fixated on producing immediate results and having tangible evidence in their hands the minute they ask for something. With personal development, the true benefits can only be realized when we incorporate the ideas into a habit.

Think about it this way. If you were to make a firm commitment to read or listen to personal development educational programs for even 30 minutes a day for the next two weeks, what kind of positive impact could this have on your life? What if you did it for two months? Similar to unconscious activities such as getting dressed or brushing your teeth, you would start to create a new habit and become the kind of person who automatically takes action on ideas that move you in the direction of improved results.

From personal experience, I can attest to the fact that this kind of self study works. It really is a never ending process because it is part of our nature to grow, expand and develop and ultimately, it provides an excellent opportunity to make positive life changes. As you become more involved in personal development, you will start to notice areas of your life that are working well and other areas that require improvement. This kind of education will help you harness ideas that will improve your results while at the same time, overcome all of the inhibitors standing in the way of you achieving your aim!

A common question I hear is, "Where do I start?" There are so many good authors, philosophies and ideas on this topic that you can never really say which style will work. The best advice I have ever received from this perspective is to study and learn from those who are producing results that you would like in your life. It's a pretty basic lesson but a very important one. Seek out the people who have already achieved what you would like to achieve and learn from them. Success often leaves clues and it is up to you to find those clues and act on them. With a daily commitment to personal improvement, you will quickly become a master detective you will transform each clue into a tangible action that will lead to a more fulfilled life.

Home Building Books and Construction Help

If you're a do it yourself or or a homeowner who every once in a while, once to tackle a small or large project but doesn't know where to begin, can gather useful information from home building books. I have been using these books for years and may have been worth their weight in gold.

I started my career working for my father and my father worked for his father as a Carpenter. Our job was to frame the house and we built a Lotta homes. I learned how to frame and developed some great carpentry skills from my father and working with other skilled carpenters. Over the years, if you're paying attention, even a monkey can figure out, how to assemble almost anything.

The only problem that I faced, was learning how to build the rest of the home. I would often ask questions to other building trades like plumbers, electricians, roofers and construction superintendents. Some of these people were helpful and others were not. When I was in my early 30s, I purchased my first book on home building. This book lead to other books and soon I found myself with more home building knowledge that my father.

I had about 50 books on home building and soon found myself doing large home remodels, with no formal education. I would attribute almost everything that I learned outside of house framing to books. These books have proven invaluable to me over the years and with a relatively small investment. I couldn't have spent over $200 purchasing these books but have used the knowledge from them to save myself thousands of dollars.

One $20 home building books or home repairs, can save you lots of money, if you're willing to do a little research and the labor to complete almost any home building project.

By the way, if you're interested in learning how to repair a roof, build your own house, interior decorating, structural engineering, building a deck, gathering some more information about home painting or even remodeling your bathroom. An online home building bookstore can save you money if you're willing to do the work.

Shower Lighting Suggestions

When choosing the interior lighting for a home, the bathroom shower lighting usually gets the least amount of attention. Most people are more concerned about the lighting for the living rooms and kitchens because guests often visit these rooms. We actually spend more time in our bathrooms than we realize especially if we have Jacuzzi tubs and large shower stalls. Many bathrooms have only one light fixture in the ceiling no matter how large the bathroom. This one light fixture in the middle of the ceiling will not provide an adequate amount light to enjoy a bath in a Jacuzzi tub or a nice long hot shower. The bathroom is the first room you see in the morning and the last room you see at before you go to bed so it is important to create a relaxing experience in this room, which starts with a great lighting arrangement.

A great bathroom lighting arrangement consists of a pattern of layers. The places in the room where you shower, shave or put on your makeup need to have plenty of light. Vanity lighting is used to highlight your face and head for shaving and putting on make up. Avoid recessed lighting fixtures for vanity lighting because they tend to create shadows on your face which will make it hard to see what you are doing. Vertical fixtures placed on the sides of a mirror will eliminate the shadows on your face and create an overall even lighting making it easier to perform your daily grooming. Vanity lighting fixtures should be a minimum of 150 watts.

The shower lighting area should be illuminated with task lighting. If an average size bathroom has a shower stall that has a glass door instead of a curtain, an additional fixture may not be needed. If the bathroom is very large or has a thick shower curtain, an additional single recessed light about the shower stall will work well. Also, when creating your bathroom lighting arrangement, another recessed light over a toilet or tub will provide optimum lighting.

When choosing light bulbs for your shower lighting, a bright white bulb is the best choice because it creates the most natural skin tones. Halogen light bulbs are more expensive than traditional light bulbs, but they will give off the most natural type of lighting and are 10 times more energy efficient than traditional bulbs. It is important to remember that there is a lot of water in a bathroom and it can be dangerous if it mixes with electricity. All lighting fixtures should be a minimum of 6 feet away from any sinks, tubs and showers.

Stained Glass Construction

There are two ways to make stained glass, leaded or copper foiled. The major difference between the two is in the construction. With leaded stained glass, the glass is fitted into channels of lead came. In contrast, copper foiled stained glass is constructed by wrapping each piece of glass with copper foil.

Leaded stained glass historically is found in churches. It was during the Victoria Era where leaded stained glass was introduced into homes and has remained a popular method of constructing stained glass ever since.

Foiled stained glass was mastered by Tiffany in the early 1900's and soon after became a popular method for creating stained glass.

Common Questions:

Is one method better than the other?

The simple answer is no. A better answer is that it depends on the artist and the design.

What is the difference in leaded and foiled construction?

With leaded stained glass, the construction must begin at an outer corner, the individual pieces are fitted into lead came. Once all pieces are cut and placed in lead came, the joints of came are soldered. Then the piece is cemented.

With foiled stained glass, the construction can begin at any point in the design and worked out from there. The individual pieces are wrapped in copper foil and soldered together.

When is foiled stained glass construction better than lead?

With intricate designs, foiled construction is superior

When is lead construction better than foiled?

Leaded construction is used most often with designs that have repetitive geometric shapes. These designs can be foiled, but construction time is increased.

Which is easier?

There is no simple answer for this. It is really a personal preference. Leaded, foiled or combination of the two are used throughout the stained glass industry.

Is leaded or foiled construction better than the other?

No, each method, if done correctly, will provide the same long lasting beauty and endurance.

Why is foiled construction taught to beginners doing stained glass?

The cementing in leaded construction tends to be messy. Foiled construction can be started and stopped, making weekly classes work.

What are the steps for making leaded stained glass?

  1. Stained glass is cut, shaped and fitted into channels of lead came.
  2. Joints of lead came are soldered.
  3. The piece is cemented
  4. The piece is cleaned and polished

What are the steps for making foiled stained glass?

  1. Stained glass is cut and shaped, and then each piece is wrapped in copper foil.
  2. Copper foil seams are soldered together.
  3. The piece is cleaned and polished.

My Personal Choice:

I tend to do a lot of intricate designs, so I use the foiled construction method. It provides the flexibility and detail I need for my designs.

Natural Wood Cedar Garage Doors

Natural wood garage doors are aesthetically very pleasing and add value to any home. Redwood, oak and cedar garage doors are very popular with many new home builders. Natural wood is really great at accenting your home. In terms of garage doors pricing wood doors are relatively cheap to build and install however they are obviously not as durable as conventional metal or composite garage doors.

Wood garage doors will weather quickly and expand and contract with temperature and humidity changes. As such frequent up keep will be required to keep them in good condition. Many of the new wood care products do a very good job of protecting wood products including wood garage doors. If you live in area with long winters and deep snows where the snow will lay against the doors for an extended period then you will need to conduct maintenance more often. Also if you live in an area with long periods of heat and humidity such as the Southeast US you will also have to do a good job of regular maintenance to protect your investment.

The lowest priced wood garage doors are constructed of redwood while oak and cedar garage doors are normally about twice as expensive. A 16 x 7 redwood garage door will average about $600 to $800 depending on the type of door construction. Tilt-up garage doors are especially adaptable to using wood for construction. Cedar garage doors have an additional advantage of being lightweight and very rot resistant. In addition white cedar garage doors do a fairly good job of insulating as well.

If you decide to use a flush fit roll up garage door construction you should make sure the panels are constructed of one solid piece of wood. Failure to do so will mean that there is a good chance that glued and stapled seams will begin to show after weathering. Finding redwood and cedar material that is straight and clean can be expensive. Thin wood panels will have a higher risk of warping than larger dimensions. However it you are installing an oak door with long solid panels then door weight may become a concern.

For obvious reason you would not want to install cedar garage doors or any wood door in areas of high wind risk. However you can apply a wood door covering to a high wind rated door that will protect your home from hurricanes and meet local high wind building codes. In some case local building codes will not permit the modification. It probably be best find a conventional high wind garage door manufacture that has a very good artificial wood finish embossed on it if you live along the Southeast Coastal areas.

When building your home there is no doubt that natural wood garage doors do look very nice. The look of an oak, redwood or white cedar garage doors that are well maintained will certainly enhance the value of your home. It really is hard to beat the natural look of real wood.

Stair Treads Safety Tips

If you've built as many stairways as I have, this is a very simple question to answer. Should I use 2 x 12 or 3 x 12 for my stair treads? Without a doubt I would use the 3 x 12 for a couple of reasons.

The thickness of the three by material gives it some additional strength and that strength could prevent someone from falling through the stairway and getting injured. Visually looking at the 3 x 12 it gives you the illusion that the stairway is safe. Once you start walking up the stairway and the stairs seem solid and well constructed, it takes the illusion and makes it a reality.

If you're walking up a poorly constructed stairway every day, not only is it a safety problem but it takes a little bit of effort as you walk up the stairway, holding on to the hand rail with a death grip, this can easily wear someone out physically and mentally, over time. Stairways should be constructed and maintained with safety as the main priority.

If you've ever walked up and older stairway that was built using 2 x 12 for the stair treads, you probably know what I'm talking about. Walking up and down the stairway, while the stair treads are moving, does not give you a strong sense that the stairway is safe. And of course sometimes the stairway isn't.

For example if you have a 3 inch knot in a 2 x 12 stair tread, over time as the wood expands and contracts, the knot can loosen up and fall out of the stair tread, often creating a weak spot in the step. With a thicker stair tread, it will take a little more expanding and contracting to create a weak spot in the stair step.

If you're building a stairway wider than 36 inches, with no center stair stringers to support the stairway, I would suggest using a 3 x 12 or 4 x 12 for your stair treads. 2 x 12 should not be used for stair treads on any staircase wider than 36 inches.

If you choose to use 2 x 12 for your stair treads, select premium grade lumber for safety. Try to avoid using center cut building materials and 2 x 12 with knots larger than an inch and a half. Large knots are one of the biggest problems in construction safety.
